William Wyper

The Battalion embarked at Alexandria for Marseilles on the 01/05/1918 and arrived there on the 07/05/1918. They were part of the 94th Brigade, 31st Division. William was having breakfast when a shell burst and struck him on the head killing him instantly. His remains were laid to rest by his comrades and a cross with inscription was erected. William was the first to enlist in Coatdyke when war broke out and served in Gallipoli and Palestine before arriving in France. He had served nearly 4 years. William was formerly with the Lanarkshire Imperial Yeomanry as a Trooper and this is how he is remembered on the Memorial. He is also remembered on the Blairhill United Free Church Roll of Honour (see photos).
