Son of Mr and Mrs Hugh Wilson of Parkside Cottage, West George St, Coatbridge. Hugh had 2 brothers serving. James was a Chaplain to the Forces and by a strange coincidence Hugh met his other brother Neil of the Northumberland Fusiliers in the same hospital as he was in after being wounded. They had not seen each other for 11 months

The 2nd Battalion arrived at Zeebrugge on the 07/10/1914 and were part of the 20th Brigade, 7th Division. Hugh was Killed in Action during an attack on Infantry Hill which formed part of the Hindenburg Line. Hugh is listed as 1st BATTALION on the Coatbridge Memorial. He was previously with the Cameron Highlanders. He received his Commission on the Battlefield. Hugh is also remembered on the Maxwell Parish Church and East United Free Churches Rolls of Honour (see photos) and on the Drumpellier Golf Club Roll of Honour (see photos).
