John Tinto

The 10th (Service) Battalion arrived at Boulogne in July 1915 and were part of the 44th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division. On the 11/05/1916 they amalgamated with the 8th (Service) Battalion to form the 8/10th (Service) Battalion. John arrived in France in January 1916. In the spring of 1916, the Division was involved in German gas attacks near Hulluch (27th - 29th April 1916) and in the defence of the Kink position (11th May 1916). These are among the engagements officially known as the Actions of Spring 1916. Only 6 other ranks of the Battalion were killed in the whole month of July 1916. John was 1 of these men.
