ADDITIONAL FAMILY INFORMATION - From the 1891 Census - Address - 6 Main St, Anderston, Glasgow - William Robertson aged 43, Helen Robertson aged 39, William Robertson aged 14, Elizabeth Robertson aged 12, Thomas Robertson aged 10, Robert Robertson aged 8, Walter Robertson aged 5, John Robertson aged 3, Helen Robertson aged 2 weeks. The Battalion arrived at Le Havre on the 14/08/1914 and were part of the 8th Brigade, 3rd Division when Robert fell. Robert came through most of the heavy fighting until he Died of Wounds in the 26th General Hospital at Etaples just over 6 months before the Armistice. The Battalion were involved in these Battles in April 1918 - the Battle of Estaires, 9th - 11th April, the Battle of Hazebrouck (fought in the defence of Hinges Ridge), 12th - 15th April and the Battle of Bethune, 18th April. These Battles were part of the Battles of the Lys, 9th April - 29th April 1918 : The third German offensive Operation Georgette takes place in Flanders with the objective of capturing key railway and supply roads and cutting off British Second Army at Ypres. After initial successes the German attack is once again held after British and French reserves are somehow found and deployed.
