The Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 14/08/1914 and were part of the 5th Brigade, 2nd Division. John arrived in France on the 04/01/1915 (as part of the 1st Battalion). John originally joined the 4th Battalion Highland Light Infantry in Glasgow on the 13/08/1897. His Service Number was 9976. He was discharged by purchase £2 on the 29/06/1898.
