Son of John and Isabella Jane (Jeannie) Muir of 16 Carridale St, Blairhill, Coatbridge. Robert's older brother Lance Corporal Findlay Muir of the 13th Battalion Royal Scots was accidentally killed in France on the 22/10/1915. Robert enlisted soon after. Another brother was serving in the Navy. From the 1901 Census - Address - 12 George St, Coatbridge - John Muir aged 34, Jane Muir aged 32, Findlay Muir aged 6, Robert Muir aged 4, John Muir aged 2, Alexander Muir aged 3 months, boarders George Muir aged 22, James Muir aged 21. Robert's Pension was not issued. See Pension Records (lists only Robert's brother Findlay received a Pension).

The 50th (Howitzer) Brigade were part of the 9th (Scottish) Division and arrived in France in May 1915. Robert arrived in France on the 06/12/1915. From the 25th October the Division moved to the Belgian coast. See Directory for Robert's older brother Findlay's page. Robert is also remembered on the Coatbridge High School Roll of Honour and at the Family Plot in New Monkland Cemetery (see photos) and in the St. Augustine's Parish (book) Roll of Honour.
