Edward Blackwood

ADDITIONAL FAMILY INFORMATION - From the 1881 Census - Address - Dunfermline - Edward Blackwood aged 33, Margaret Blackwood aged 33, Ludovic Blackwood aged 11, Janet Blackwood aged 9, Mary Blackwood aged 7, James Blackwood aged 5, Edward Blackwood aged 3, Margaret Blackwood aged 9 months. The Battalion started off as the 1/5th (Queen's Edinburgh Rifles). They sailed from Avonmouth on the 20/03/1915, going via Egypt to Gallipoli on the 25/04/1915. They returned to Egypt on the 07/01/1916. They then moved to France, landing at Marseilles on the 10/03/1916. On the 15/06/1916 they amalgamated with 1/6th Battalion to become 5/6th Battalion. The 5/6th Battalion were part of the 14th Brigade, 32nd Division when Edward fell at the Battle of Amiens, 8th - 11th August 1918 : The British Fourth Army attacks alongside French forces further south and scores a notable victory and a deep advance from Amiens. He was an organist in Dundyvan Church and also sang in the Dunbeth Church choir. Edward was formerly with the Highland Light Infantry (31046) and the 9th Battalion Royal Scots (5583). Edward was reburied in Bouchoir New British Cemetery (see photo).
