The Battalion arrived at Le Havre on the 15/08/1914 and were part of the 13th Brigade, 5th Division. James arrived in France on the 24/10/1914. James is listed as McVERRIE on the Coatbridge Memorial. James had seen foreign Service in Cairo and Khartoum. He was a Reservist when he was called up in 1914.
