Family Information

Son of John (03/04/1872 - 20/06/1937) and Ellen McKeown (23/07/1869 - 16/05/1947) of 20 Brewsterford Place, Coatbridge. From the 1901 Census - Address - 58 Clyde Square, Coatbridge - John McKeown aged 30, Ellen McKeown aged 29, James McKeown aged 10, Alice McKeown aged 9, Edward McKeown aged 7, John McKeown aged 4, Arthur McKeown aged 1 who sadly died a year later on the 13th July at 8.30 am aged 2 from gastroenteritis. In 1911 the family lived at 204 Calder St, Whifflet. There were 4 more girls in the family, Rose Ann, Jane, Susan and Helen (see Family Information photo kindly sent to me by Edward's great nephew Ian Hughes). Edward's Pension was originally awarded to his father then when his father died his Pension was awarded to his wife Ellen on the 20/12/1916.

The Battalion arrived at Le Havre on the 14/08/1914 and were part of the 9th Brigade, 1st Division when Edward fell. A huge thank you to Edward's great nephew Ian Hughes for sending me a huge amount of information regarding Edward, the family and from the Royal Scots Fusiliers dairies. ALL 3 McKEOWN BROTHERS SERVED. James was a Gunner in the Royal Field Artillery (12640) and John was an Ordinary Seaman with the Royal Navy (J/85282).
