Killed in Action on the 01/09/1918 at the Advance in Flanders

On the 11/05/1915 the 1/5th (Dumfries and Galloway) Battalion were part of the 155th Brigade, 52nd (Lowland) Division. They sailed from Liverpool on the 24/05/1915 for service at Gallipoli. They arrived on the 06/06/1915. In January 1916 they moved via Mudros to Egypt. On the 17/04/1918 they moved with the Division and landed at Marseilles for service in France. On the 28/06/1918 they transferred to 103rd Brigade, 34th Division. David fell at the Advance in Flanders, 18th August - 6th September 1918 : Second and Fifth Armies begin operations in the Lys valley, recapturing the ground lost in April 1918. David was formerly with the 2nd Battalion Highland Light Infantry (46370). See Directory for David's brother William's page.
