Killed in Action on the 11/11/1914 at the Battle of Nonne Bosschen (part of the Battles of Ypres, 1st Ypres)

The Battalion arrived at Le Havre on the 14/08/1914 and were part of the 9th Brigade, 3rd Division. Michael arrived in France on the 22/09/1914. Michael fell 50 days after his arrival. He was 1 of 30 killed from the Royal Scots Fusiliers when the elite Prussian Guard overran their trenches at the Battle of Nonne Bosschen on the 11th November 1914. This was part of the Battles of Ypres (1st Ypres), 19th October - 22nd November 1914 : Often known as the 1st Battle of Ypres, this is a series of named Battles that also form part of the outflanking encounter. It becomes a desperate epic fight east of the city of Ypres which finally results in stalemate and entrenched warfare. It takes place at the same time as the Battle of the Yser, fought nearby by the Belgian Army against the Germans, and the battles to the south at Messines, Armentieres and La Bassee. Private Joseph Cairns who enlisted with Michael in Coatbridge was also killed in this attack. The War ended exactly 4 years after Michael's death. Michael is listed as McCormack on the Memorial. He is also remembered on the St. Patrick's Church Roll of Honour.
