James (Jimmy) McCarroll McBrier

Killed in Action on the 05/10/1918 at Meurchin, northeast of Lens (part of the Final Advance in Artois)

The Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 03/05/1915 and were transferred to the 44th Brigade, 15th (Scottish) Division on the 01/06/1918. They absorbed the 8/10th Battalion a week later. The Battalion were part of the Final Advance in Artois, 2nd October - 11th November 1918 : 1st and 5th Armies continue the advance in the Artois region, liberating the French coalfields, Lens and Douai. Between October the 5th and 10th nothing beyond patrol encounters took place. The enemy were strongly posted on the east bank of the Haute Deule Canal and all parties approaching its western bank came under heavy machine-gun fire.
