Alexander James MacLeod

Died at Home (Sunderland) on the 24/05/1918. Pension record states suicide.

The 13th (Service) Battalion York and Lancaster Regiment were part of the 94th Brigade, 31st Division when they arrived in France in March 1916. Alexander died suddenly in Sunderland. His Pension Record states this was through suicide (see photos). He returned from France in March 1918 suffering from shellshock. In the month of Alexander's return the Battalion were involved in these Battles - The 1st Battles of the Somme, 1918 : Battle of St Quentin, 21st - 23rd March, 1st Battle of Bapaume, 24th - 25th March, 1st Battle of Arras, 28th March. Alexander is listed as McLEOD on the Coatbridge Memorial. He was formerly with the Royal Army Service Corps (297311). Alexander is also remembered on the Isle of Lewis War Memorial x 2 (see photos).
