Son of the late Robert and Victoria Loughan (Grant) of 67 Dundyvan Rd, Coatbridge. Elder brother of Private Peter Loughan of the 8th Battalion Black Watch who was Killed in Action on the 14/07/1916. In his Will dated 22/11/1914 Charles' left the whole of his property and effects to his mother Victoria. From the 1901 Ireland Census - Address - 31 Little Georges, Dock Ward, Antrim, Ireland - Robert Loughan aged 60, Victoria Loughan aged 40, Robert Loughan aged 20, Annie Loughan aged 16, Nathaniel Loughan aged 15, Charles Loughan aged 10, Margaret Ann Loughan aged 8, Patrick Loughan aged 6, Peter Loughan aged 4, Sarah Loughan aged 2.

The Battalion arrived at Le Havre on the 20/12/1914 and were part of the 82nd Brigade, 27th Division. They then moved to concentrate in the area between Aire-sur-la-Lys and Arques. Charles' Will dated 22/11/1914 - his effects and property were received by his mother (see photos). See Directory for Charles' brother Peter's page.
