Edward drowned when his ship was sunk by the enemy submarine U-101 in the Irish Sea. On the 05/02/1918 when 15 miles W x S1/2S of South Stack Rock, Holyhead, Wales the S.S. "Mexico City" was torpedoed without warning and sunk by German submarine U-101. 29 lives lost including Master. The vessel was on route from Liverpool to Alexandria with a general cargo. Edward is also remembered at the Family Plot in Old Monkland Cemetery (see photos).
