Thomas Halbert

Died of Wounds 15/08/1918 at the 1st South African Field Ambulance

The Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 12/05/1915 and were part of the 27th (Lowland) Brigade, 9th (Scottish) Division when Thomas fell. Thomas was previously with the 2nd Battalion. In the period from the 26th July to the 18th of August 1918 the Battalion and Division were involved in raids and counter-raids. Previous to this the Division had captured Meteren. On Sunday the 4th of August (Anniversary of Britain entering the War) a Parade Service was held in Terdeghem with Lieut-Colonel Smyth of the 6th K.O.S.B in command of the XV Corps. At this time the 9th (Scottish) adopted the practice of distinguishing its personnel by a special mark. This consisted of a white metal thistle on a small circular disc of royal blue cloth worn on the upper part of both arms and the 1st unit to be completed with the sign was the 6th Battalion K.O.S.B. who had the honour of marching past His Majesty the King near La Breade on the 6th August.
