Drowned on the 16/03/1918 after his ship was torpedoed by the German submarine UB-59 in the English Channel

Maxwell survived the Battle of Jutland. Here are the Battle Crew Lists 1916 - Name : Maxwell Frame - Rank : Able Seaman - Birth Date : March 1895 - Military From Date : 16th June 1915 - Military To Date : 31st March 1917 - Ship Name : H.M.S. "Hercules" - Service Number : Z/3172 - Death Date : 17th March 1918 - Notes : Individual confirmed at the Battle of Jutland. Maxwell died when his ship, S.S. "South Western", was sunk by the German submarine UB-59 in the English Channel, 9 miles south-west from St. Catherine's Port, Isle of Wight whilst travelling from Southampton to St. Malo carrying general cargo. 24 lives were lost with 6 survivors. UB-59 was later scuttled at Zeebrugge on the 05/10/1918 during the German evacuation of Belgium. It was one of the most successful U-boats of the war with 88 ships sunk and 4 damaged under Commander Erwin Wassner. From the UB-59 War Diary : 16/03/1918 at 11.45pm - surface attack against a Steamer with course to Cherbourg. Had to fire from behind, obviously the Steamer changed course from its usual zig-zag course. Torpedo detonated after 2 minutes on the seabed. 17/03/1918 at 12.45am - surface attack against the same Steamer, Torpedo Mk111, distance 450km, hit on the front section, the whole forepart including the hatch was blown in the air. The Steamer floated for 20 minutes then sunk.
