Third son of William (19/03/1859 - ) and Jane Reid Carson (1867 - 22/06/1910) of 18 Sunnyside Terrace, Coatbridge. Both parents deceased. William's mother Jane died at the Western Infirmary, Glasgow and was buried in Old Monkland Cemetery on the 25/06/1910. William resided with his brother Samuel and his wife Janet of 5 Sunnyside Cottages, Coatbridge. From the 1901 Census - Address - 24l Stewart St, Coatbridge - William Carson aged 42, Jane Carson aged 34, Samuel Carson aged 13, Margaret Carson aged 9, Alexander Carson aged 7, William Carson aged 5. William also had another sister named Isabella. Samuel, Margaret and Isabella were left William's belongings. William's Pension was awarded to his sister-in-law Mrs Janet Carson of 5 Sunnyside Cottages, Coatbridge on the 30/11/1916

Additional Information

The Battalion arrived at Boulogne on the 09/07/1915 and were part of the 44th Brigade,15th (Scottish) Division. William arrived on the 03/10/1915 and was part of "C" Company. William was wounded at the Hohenzollern Section, Loos on the 21/05/1916 and died the next day of an internal haemorrhage. According to the Battalion War Diary the casualties on the 21/05/1916 were - Lieutenant J. S. Robertson Killed. Other Ranks Killed - "C" Company 3, "D" Company 2, Wounded - "B" Company 4, "C" Company 8, "D" Company 7. William was 1 of the 8 men of "C" Company to be wounded. His trench belongings included a leather purse and a metal cigarette case along with photos and letters. SEE PHOTOS x 10 FOR THE BATTALION WAR DIARY MAY 1916. William is also remembered on the Gartsherrie Parish Church Roll of Honour (see photos). His brother Alexander is listed in the Gartsherrie Parish Church Roll of Honour in the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser Newspaper clipping 26/12/1914.
